SPARK

Setting up the first English classes in this area, we create an English-rich environment that supports reading, writing, speaking, and listening.

Practising English through a scaffolding and bottom-up approach, students learn in authentic contexts such as experiments and project-based learning.

Advancing with our mature Primary 4 Development of Text Sets programme, our school-based booklets build students’ generic skills and promote value education.

Reinforcing confidence through diverse opportunities—students serve as English ambassadors, take part in weekly English Day activities, and practise with non-local teachers (ELTA, NET, and part-time NET).

Keeping learning connected to the 21^st century over the globe through widening the horizons with overseas students, using a preview–inquiry–extension learning cycle to help learners become more self-directed in English.

NET curriculum

KS1:

-      Developing students phonemic awareness through multi-sensory phonics practice

-      Promoting reading to learn through storytelling, shared reading and e-reading

-      Extending vocabulary through guided writing practice of High Frequency Words (HFW)

-      Developing students encoding ability through practicing linking words spelling patterns to their spoken pronunciation  

-      Providing every student with meaningful opportunities to use English authentically for communication, for expression and for enjoyment

KS2:

-      Developing students’ conceptual understanding through Inquiry-Based Learning (IBL)

-      Promoting communication and collaboration skills with peers through Inquiry-Based Learning

-      Promoting English fluency skills through group discussions, roleplays and reciprocal reading of classic children’s literature

-      Enhancing public speaking ability and building vocabulary through guided group discussions on relevant, newsworthy topics

-      Cultivate learner autonomy through Inquiry-Based Learning
